Service, Repairs & Support

Where to go when something goes wrong

Being straight with you up front: The Embroidery House does not service or repair machines in-house. We are a retailer.

That is deliberate rather than a gap. Brother machines — especially the computerised and multi-needle ones — should be worked on by technicians with Brother training, Brother diagnostic tools and genuine Brother parts. Brother maintain an authorised service network across South Africa for exactly this reason, and that network is where your machine should go.

Your warranty

  • Every genuine Brother machine we sell carries the applicable Brother South Africa manufacturer warranty from date of purchase. Home sewing and embroidery machines typically carry a 1-year carry-in warranty; terms vary by model.
  • You do not need to register the product. Brother's warranty is automatic from purchase.
  • Warranty repairs are carried out by Brother-authorised service centres — not by us, and not by a general repair shop.
  • Use genuine Brother accessories and consumables. Non-genuine parts and inks are the most common cause of avoidable damage, and using them can affect your warranty.
  • Keep your invoice. It is your proof of purchase date.

Finding your nearest service partner

Two ways:

  1. Ask us. Email or WhatsApp us your machine model and your town, and we will point you to the right Brother-authorised partner for your area. This is usually the fastest route.
  2. Go direct to Brother. Brother South Africa list their technical support centres and full support resources on their website.

Before you book a repair — try this first

A large share of "faults" are not faults. Before you box up a machine, check:

  • Rethread the machine completely, top thread and bobbin, with the presser foot up. Threading with the foot down is the single most common cause of tension problems.
  • Change the needle. A blunt or bent needle causes skipped stitches, thread breaks and puckering. Needles are consumables — replace them regularly.
  • Match the needle to the fabric. Ballpoint for knits, denim needle for denim, sharp for wovens.
  • Clean the bobbin area. Lint under the bobbin case affects tension and sounds like a mechanical fault.
  • Embroidery puckering? Nine times out of ten it is the stabiliser — wrong type, wrong weight, or none.
  • Check the manual and FAQs at Brother South Africa support, or use the Brother Support App for step-by-step video troubleshooting.

Still not right? Then it is time for a technician — and we will help you find one.

Routine servicing

Machines that run regularly benefit from periodic servicing by an authorised technician, the same way a car does. If your machine is earning you money — a professional embroidery machine especially — book servicing into your calendar rather than waiting for it to stop mid-order.

Something wrong with a delivery?

If your machine arrives damaged, faulty or incorrect, that is a different matter and it is ours to fix. Contact us immediately with photos and we will resolve it at no cost to you. See our Returns, Exchanges & Warranty Policy for your full rights under the Consumer Protection Act.
